Clinical Supervisor

Welcome!  Thank you for considering me as your potential supervisor. I am now accepting new supervisees working towards becoming fully licensed in Washington state.  As an experienced Marriage and Family Therapist, I bring a wealth of experience to my role as a clinical supervisor. My passion lies in fostering the development of emerging clinicians and enhancing the quality of care provided to clients.  Together, we can navigate the complexities of clinical practice and business management.

Clinical Supervision Approach and Philosophy

My supervision philosophy is rooted in collaboration, support, and continuous learning. I believe that supervision is a vital component of professional development, providing a space for reflection, skill enhancement, and ethical practice.  I believe the alliance between supervisor and supervisee is dependent upon mutual trust, integrity and respect. I prioritize creating a safe and support environment as you navigate the vulnerable and dynamic process of building your practice and developing who you are as a therapist. In our work together, you will feel empowered to explore your clinical challenges and explore ways to foster your growth.

Business and Marketing Support

In addition to building your clinical skills, supervision is a space where I will teach you how to build your business through client referrals, networking, and marketing.  In my role, I strive to mentor and empower clinicians to excel, ensuring that your practice not only meets but exceeds client expectations. Together, we can create a thriving, ethical, and effective private practice that stands out in a competitive landscape.

Education and Experience

I received my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012 from Pacific Lutheran University.  My clinical experience includes working in community mental health and private practice settings.  In 2016, I opened my own practice to focus and expand on my work with couples.  The primary focus of my clinical work is on guiding couples and individuals through attachment work which addresses anxiety, depression and PTSD. I have completed both the Washington state course and the AAMFT course for supervision.  My supervisory experience includes supervising Marriage and Family therapy student clinicians and associate therapists in private practice.  I have received advanced training and supervision in couples work and the Emotionally Focused Therapy model.  The wide range of trauma trainings I have attended helps me to use a trauma-sensitive approach to supervision and clinical work.

Culturally Responsive and Systemic Approach

I became a clinical supervisor because I believe in investing in the next generation of culturally diverse clinicians.  In our work together, I will incorporate and honor your contextual factors and practice cultural humility.   In supervision, I believe it is important to acknowledge and center our own feelings around the broader dynamics and context of society that not only impacts you but influences how you show up in the room for your clients.  While supervision is not therapy, I encourage you to bring the parts of yourself that need attention and care in order to be able to take care of yourself, your clients, and the profession.  Balancing your own wellness while caring for clients is essential to mitigate the risk of burnout and compassion fatigue.

Click here to read more about the structure of supervision. The general focus of supervisions is on: developing clinical skills, assessment, treatment, case conceptualization, theory application, abiding by ethical and professional standards, and building strong therapeutic relationships that will help guide your work with individuals, couples, and families.  I will work with you to develop competence in your chosen theoretical model.  I am familiar with many systems oriented theoretical frameworks and primarily counsel from an attachment based, Emotionally Focused Therapy lens.  In addition to reviewing cases, in supervision, we will also hold space for you to prioritize self of the therapist development.  As your supervisor, I’m here to help you learn how to hold and carry the work in a way that honors your needs while also ensuring quality care.  This process will be done through exploring your own values, biases, assumptions, and stuck points as they come up.     Upon starting our work together, we will determine the cadence of supervision which will be dependent upon your needs and caseload.  The format of supervision is conducted virtually and can be individual, dyadic, or in a group setting with up to 4 supervisees.  Throughout the supervision process, we will determine the best way to promote learning for you through a mix of case discussions, and audio/video recordings. We will evaluate your needs as you grow into the clinician that you want to become and will routinely utilize a collaboratively open format to discuss your strengths and growing edges.  Throughout the supervision process, you can expect that I will take on different roles including, coach, mentor, and teacher to cultivate an enriching learning environment for you.  The purpose of supervision is to guide you through your clinical journey and help you gain clinical skills, experience, and competency that will in return help your clients build a lasting and trusting relationship with you.  While we set short-term and long term goals together; in our work together you can expect standard goals for supervision to include: To develop competence and clinical skills in standard assessment, treatment modalities, and interventions that will promote learning and growth  To oversee the development of ethical decision making To ensure professional standards are met To cultivate learning that helps the supervisee develop their professional identity and area of expertise To promote quality care and ensure client safety and welfare  To increase your self-awareness and self-confidence To explore and tend to appropriate ways to work with gender, race, culture, religious, and political differences
